Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island)is a 2012 film directed by Brad Peyton and starring Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán. It is the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather Hank (Dwayne Johnson) joins the adventure. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful and stubborn daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to discover the island, rescue its lonely inhabitant and escape before seismic movements sink the island and bury its treasures forever.

Han pasado cuatro años desde la anterior aventura. Sean, de 17 años, es detenido por la policía tras una breve persecución en su moto de cross. Su padrastro Hank llega cuando un amigo policía le llama, explicándole que Sean había entrado en un centro de control de satélites.

Hank descubre que Sean accedió a los satélites con la esperanza de mejorar una señal codificada que sospecha que fue enviada por su abuelo desaparecido hace tiempo, Alexander Anderson. Deseando establecer un vínculo con su hijastro, Hank le ayuda a descifrar el código de los personajes de Julio Verne, lo que le lleva a escribir tres libros: La isla del tesoro, Los viajes de Gulliver y La isla misteriosa de Verne. Utilizando los mapas individuales de las islas de los libros, Hank utiliza una luz de fondo para convertirlas en una sola isla, con las coordenadas de su ubicación. Hank consigue convencer a su esposa Liz de que le deje llevar a Sean en busca de la isla para estrechar lazos con él, pero también con la ligera esperanza de demostrarle a Sean que allí no hay ninguna isla misteriosa.

Llegan a Palau, donde Hank contrata a regañadientes al guía turístico en helicóptero Gabato y a su hija Kailani (de la que Sean se enamora inmediatamente; al principio se negaba vehementemente a participar en el viaje, pero rápidamente cambió de opinión tras ver a Kailani) para que vuelen hasta las coordenadas por 3.000 dólares, ya que son los únicos dispuestos a llevarlos. El helicóptero queda atrapado en un ciclón y se estrellan en el Pacífico, despertando en la isla.

It stars Dwayne Johnson, Josh Hutcherson, Michael Caine, Kristin Davis, Luis Guzman, and Vanessa Hudgens. Produced by New Line Cinema and Walden Media, it was set for release on September 23, 2011 by Warner Bros. Pictures,[1] but was given a 2012 release date. The screenplay is by Richard Outten and Brian Gunn & Mark Gunn.

Meanwhile Kailani and Alexander manage to find Gabato trying to drag a huge stone of pure gold. Gabato refuses to go with them until his daughter convinces him, but the volcano erupts and the ocean floor begins to sink the island. As they approach “Poseidon’s Crag,” the volcano erupts violently, creating lava flows and spewing out flaming lava bombs. Sean and Hank arrive piloting the Nautilus just in time to rescue the others. Gabato takes command of the submarine as they make their way away from the island. As they finally get away from the dangers, Kailani kisses Sean for his bravery in rescuing them.

However in January 2018, Dwayne Johnson stated that although a third film, titled Journey from the Earth to the Moon, was intended, its development had been cancelled due to lack of interest and problems adapting the novel.
